On the basis of a complaint lodged by CHANROBLES, the NBI, after almost a month of high-tech surveillance operation, has finally caught and arrested the culprit who has hacked the lecture video resources of ChanRobles Bar Review and who is illegally selling them through sulit.com. Armed with a search warrant issued by RTC-Manila, the arrest of the suspect, IRVIN D. JANSALIN, as well as the search of his house located along Sisa Street, Sampaloc, Manila, and the seizure of his computers, cellphones and other devices were made by the NBI on Friday, May 04, 2012. IRVIN D. JANSALIN is a law student who alleges that he is a graduate of the Philippine Law School. In his attempt to escape and evade arrest, he jumped over the rooftop of a neighboring house and has injured himself in the process. He was clutching a laptop containing the illegally hacked materials, when he jumped. JANSALIN's cellphone was seized and upon scrutiny of its contents by the NBI, it shows the names and/or cellphone numbers of the bar reviewees who have ordered and purchased the illegal materials from him. The NBI will summon them to determine possible criminal complicity in the suit. CDs containing the illegally hacked lecture videos of bar reviewers of CHANROBLES, already packed and ready for delivery, were also found inside JANSALIN's room and were seized from him. JANSALIN is being criminally and civilly prosecuted for violation of the E-Commerce Law as well as the intellectual property rights of CHANROBLES over the illegally hacked lecture video materials. A petition to debar JANSALIN and those who ordered the illegal materials from him or otherwise dealt with him, will be filed with the Supreme Court to prohibit them from taking the bar examinations.
